Why You Should Use Ad Groups With A Small Number Of Keywords

In an effort to get a quick start, most beginners will jump right into Google Adwords creating campaigns and ad groups without fully understanding how to create an efficient ad group.

A common mistake is to lump dozens of keywords, I've seen accounts where some beginners will use hundreds of keywords in one ad group. Often, it's just a lack of knowing how to cluster keywords.

You have to create small groups of highly related keywords per ad group. You want to group keywords that have the same meaning and intention. The reason you want small, highly related keywords together is so your advertisement will speak directly to those keywords.

It would be nearly impossible for one advertisement to address the questions and concerns for several hundred keywords. Each keyword represents a specific query, and each ad should address that query.

It's a lot more work to create dozens of ad groups, and it would be a lot easier to just dump all of your keywords into one group. But your goal is to create an efficient campaign.

The more efficient, the more targeted your ads will be. The more targeted your ads, the better your traffic quality. The better the traffic quality the more sales you get.

It's a bit more effort to set up your campaign properly, but the difference between an optimized campaign and an inefficient campaign is often thousands of dollars in profit per month.
