It wasn't long ago that Yahoo was the dominant player in all things search related. While this gave Yahoo an early advantage it also gave emerging companies a model to perfect and refine.
Google took search engines and search marketing to new levels and is now the unquestioned leader.
When you're new to internet marketing and paid advertising you don't fully appreciate the differences. So how is Google better than Yahoo search?
The most important difference is VOLUME.
Because Google has such a massive customer base they can provide massive traffic to your websites in a matter of hours. Yahoo still has a large amount of traffic and users but pales in comparison to Google.
It's not uncommon to run campaigns on Google and Yahoo for the same search keywords and receive 50-70% more visitors through Google Adwords. The more customers and clicks you receive, the more likely you are to get sales.
The Google Adwords interface is also more user friendly, allowing you to target demographics and regions within the same campaign. Yahoo Search currently requires you to activate a new account for every market you want to target.
In Adwords, you can target the entire world or only a few countries within the same campaign. To accomplish the same task in Yahoo search you would need to open a new account for the U.S., Asia, Europe, etc.
Google is, and will remain, the king of paid advertising for the foreseeable future.
