How To Prevent Customers From Leaving Without Buying

You can't force someone to read every word on your website but you can encourage them to continue down the intended path by cutting out unnecessary noise.

Here are some quick tips to help keep your visitors focused on your page.

Watch Out For Leaks

It's important, especially with affiliate marketing and landing pages to remove all links that could be considered leaks. What's meant by that, are links that take your customer off the intended path.

The closer someone is to completing a transaction the fewer links you want to show them. For example, if you've ever purchased something from Amazon.com you'll notice how much of the website navigation is removed as you enter the checkout process.

Did you ever wonder why they do that? It's to prevent people from clicking away without completing the checkout process. They're eliminating links that would be considered leaks.

When you're building an affiliate website or web page you want to take into consideration what a link to an external site would do to the sales process. Would the visitor leave and never come back? Would it lead to a purchase from someone else?

You don't want to eliminate all external links on your site. Just keep Amazon's business model in mind. When you're browsing for items on Amazon you have a full compliment of links to every available category. But when you enter the buying zone, all those links are eliminated.

You should approach your online business the same way. Provide good information with quality links. But when your visitor clicks to a page that is in the sales funnel, meaning they're close to buying -- get rid off any links that would prevent the sale from being completed.
